Gush Etzion Winery – Visitors Center
Gush Etzion Winery is situated in the heart of the Etzion Bloc, surrounded by vineyards. The scene, so typical of the areas of Bordeaux and Provence, is now typical of Gush Etzion as well. As in other wineries, most of our activity is focused on production. Bringing grapes to the winery, crushing them, fermenting, straining, aging – all the fascinating processes that must take place before the wine reaches the bottle and the goblet. We also operate a visitors center where our activities are no less fascinating. Since the wine is kosher lemehadrin, no contact is permitted between the visiting public and the wine-making process. Halacha dictates that nobody, other than those authorized to handle the wine, can touch the containers and the barrels before the bottles are corked. In order for visitors to view the wine-making process, a metal bridge has been constructed inside the visitors center. From there the entire process can be observed, an experience that engages all the senses. First and foremost there is the sense of smell – it is impossible to ignore the yeasty fragrance, the fermentation, and finally the aroma of wine aging in the barrels. Then there is the sense of sight as you see all the stages of wine preparation. Here you can learn and understand the whole secret. From the bridge, visitors proceed to the visitors center to taste our wine, in a glass-enclosed, parquet-floored gallery overlooking the winery’s barrel room. In the center of the gallery is a long and imposing table. Here you are offered the choicest of our wine selection, and so your sense of taste comes into play. During the grape harvest, the winery and the winegrowers invite the wine-loving public, including children, to join in harvesting the grapes at dawn. A tour of the winery and breakfast are included.
The Yekev fish and dairy restaurant nestles among green vineyards in the heart of Gush Etzion. It is located in the visitor’s center. Our varied menu invites you to choose between breakfast , a business lunch, or a delicious evening meal accompanied by our fine wines. Whether you choose to dine on the sunporch with its view of the new vineyards, or whether you prefer the elegant visitors center overlooking the winery itself, you are assured of a delightful, pastoral experience.
